I am not super familiar with Steam - are these the games debuting for the annual summer sale or is it a different sale taking place at the same time?

They are different. Next Fest is a showcase of upcoming games that have demos, not games that are available to buy. A game can technically only appear in one Next Fest, so many developers use it to promote their game just before launch. You'll see some of these games releasing in the last half of 2025, and some might be part of the big sales.

Mars Attacks looks like a load of fun!

But why did it take so long for someone to create the alien version of Roller Coaster Tycoon??

Yeah, that's a good question. It's a popular sci-fi theme, after all! I'm even more impressed that they somehow managed to align it with the Mars Attacks franchise, which is a perfect fit for the idea.
