Next Fest June 25 Roundup #3
There are a lot of games about saving relatives...
[If you enjoy these roundups and want to throw cash at us, please visit AIIG’s Ko-Fi]
If you find a demo during Steam Next Fest with a dedicated demo page, leave a review! It helps the developers refine their game and gain visibility. Or leave a comment on the discussion forums.
These demos are not just a great way to find games—they can help smaller developers improve their titles without spending a lot of extra resources. Maybe start with the ten games in today’s newsletter!
NOTE: if you don’t want to receive the Steam Next Fest newsletters, you can disable them at indiegames.substack.com/account.
Happy gaming!*
*AIIG's impressions are based on gameplay footage and descriptions, not playing the demos, and actual experiences may vary.
Theropods (Steam link)
Guide a fearless hunter to rescue her tribe from vicious barbarians, and help an alien visitor recover the powerful crystal that is at the root of the chaos. Just watch out for the dinosaurs! Theropods is a great-looking adventure inspired by the golden age of point-and-click games.
Ship, Inc. (Steam link)
Continuing the tradition of games that have you doing mundane jobs, Ship, Inc. is a quirky puzzle game where you fulfil shipping orders by selecting boxes, packing them with the right goods, and sending them to impatient customers.
Death Howl (Steam link)
Souls-like combat blends with deck building in the intense Death Howl, as you lead the hunter Ro into the spirit world. Craft decks from over 150 cards, and explore a non-linear world where you battle crafty monsters with unique fighting moves.
Always With You (Steam link)
Join a young girl and her cats as they search the ruins of an ancient civilisation for her mother. Always With You is an adventurous 3D platforming game where you can switch between the characters at any time, combining their skills to solve puzzles and unlock new areas.
Vessels of Decay (Steam link)
Stunning pixel art meets intense and dynamic combat in a vast and epic quest. Play as two siblings who are exploring a post-apocalyptic world where they fight mythical creatures emerging from an evil darkness. Vessel of Decay looks amazing, and is a must-try for action-adventure fans.
The Way of the Tray (Steam link)
If you want to become a successful waiter, you must follow The Way Of The Tray! Manage the demands of patrons at a quaint Japanese restaurant, including some otherworldly guests. Manage orders, get food to tables on time, and be sure to balance your tray!
Paris Transylvania (Steam link)
Paris Transylvania is a roguelike that combines vampire-slaying and deck building with (checks notes) pachinko? Yes, the parlour game where you drop balls to crack sequences puts a spin on this turn-based RPG where you free the people of Transylvania.
Whimsical Heroes (Steam link)
Three heroes embark on a journey through unknown lands to find out why their world is dying in the adorable Whimsical Heroes. Tackle enemies in elaborate turn-based tactics combat, upgrade your heroes, and follow their quest to discover new areas and allies.
VonGarland Castle : Beyond Blood (Steam link)
Side-scrolling survival horrors are growing into an impressive niche genre, and the impressive VonGarland Castle : Beyond Blood looks to raise that bar. Ransom VonGarland explores the ruins of her family castle to uncover a dark secret and find out what happened to her brother.
Slyders (Steam link)
Liberate Skyworld in the one-player army shooter, SLYDERS. Upgrade your weapons for insane firepower and take on hordes of enemies while dodging their blades and bullets. If things get a bit tough, summon powerful allies to give you an edge.
I'm quite confident that I never thought "You know what's missing from my ideal of a turn-based RPG? Pachinko." But, it might be worth some consideration...
Also, I might be a dog person at heart, but "Join a young girl and her cats as they search through ruins" has me sold.
